If you’ve ever watched your child glide across the ice with growing confidence—or dreamed of helping them get there—Learn to Skate USA® is where that journey begins. At Skating Edge Ice Arena, we’re proud to offer one of the South Bay’s longest-running and most trusted Learn to Skate programs, backed by certified coaches, a warm community, and decades of local skating history.
Whether your skater dreams of figure skating, hockey, synchro, or simply wants to learn something new, Learn to Skate at Skating Edge gives them the foundation to thrive on and off the ice.
What Makes Learn to Skate at Skating Edge Unique?
As one of the oldest Learn to Skate programs in our region, Skating Edge has built a reputation for excellence, belonging, and progression. What truly sets our program apart is our commitment to personalized instruction.
“We go out of our way to personalize every skater’s experience.”
— Jacki Davison, Skating Director, Skating Edge Ice Arena
Our instructors—certified by U.S. Figure Skating—don’t just follow a curriculum. They take the time to get to know each skater, their goals, and how they learn best. Whether it’s a child stepping on the ice for the first time or a returning student moving into higher levels, every skater receives individual attention.
Helping New Skaters Feel Safe and Confident
It’s normal for new skaters to feel nervous—and our team knows exactly how to help. We begin every session by teaching one of the most important skills:
How to fall safely and get back up.
“We practice falling and getting up many times. It helps take away the fear.”
— Jacki Davison
When kids understand that falling is part of skating, fear disappears and confidence grows.
A Program That Keeps Kids Engaged
Learn to Skate USA’s curriculum naturally builds excitement, but our coaches take it a step further. Each class includes:
- New skills introduced regularly
- Games and challenges that keep things fun
- Personalized encouragement so every skater feels seen
- A mix of repetition and progression to support steady improvement
“I love seeing skaters feel pride in their progress.”
— Jacki Davison
This balance helps skaters stay motivated while working toward their next milestone.
A Path for Every Skater — From First Steps to Future Goals
One of Skating Edge’s strengths is the variety of pathways available after Learn to Skate. Our rink is a hub for competitive figure skating, synchro, hockey, and recreational skating—so no matter where a skater’s interests grow, there’s a place for them.
Many of our students have progressed all the way from Basic 1 to advanced levels:
“We’ve had skaters who started in Basic 1 and are now competing with double and even triple jumps.”
— Jacki Davison
At Skating Edge, Learn to Skate isn’t the end. It’s the beginning.
Where Skaters Go Next
After Learn to Skate, students can choose to explore:
- Figure Skating (freestyle sessions, private lessons, competitions)
- Synchro Team
- Hockey (Learn to Play → Youth Hockey)
- Ice Dance classes
- Seasonal recitals and showcases
Every path is supported by experienced coaches who help skaters grow at their own pace and the program is endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey and U.S. Speedskating.

Parents frequently share that their children gain more than skating skills:

“Parents often say their kids have a new sense of confidence—on and off the ice.”
