Every Skater Starts Somewhere: What to Expect at Try Skating Free

Every Skater Starts Somewhere

Every skater remembers their first time on the ice.

For some, it begins with a little uncertainty. For others, it’s pure excitement. Nearly everyone spends a few moments holding onto the boards, laughing as they discover muscles they didn’t know they had.

The important thing is this:

Every confident skater you see today started exactly the same way.

Whether your goal is figure skating, hockey, recreational skating, or simply trying something new, everyone starts with that very first step onto the ice.

That’s exactly why Skating Edge Ice Arena hosts Try Skating Free.

A Safe, Supportive Introduction to Skating

Trying something new can feel intimidating, especially if you’ve never worn a pair of skates before.

Our Try Skating Free event is designed to remove that pressure.

Instead of wondering where to begin, you’ll be welcomed by experienced coaches who specialize in teaching beginners.

No experience is expected.

No special skills are required.

Just come ready to have fun.

What Happens During Try Skating Free?

Your first visit is relaxed and beginner-friendly.

When you arrive, our staff will help you get fitted for rental skates if you need them. Once everyone is on the ice, our certified instructors will guide participants through basic skating skills, including:

  • Standing comfortably on the ice
  • Learning balance and posture
  • Marching and moving safely
  • Taking first glides
  • Building confidence with every step

The goal isn’t perfection.

The goal is helping you leave the ice smiling—and excited to come back.

Who Can Participate?

Try Skating Free is open to first-time skaters ages 6 and up.

Children, teens, and adults are all welcome.

Whether you’re introducing your child to skating or finally deciding to learn yourself, this event is designed for beginners.

No previous skating experience is necessary.

What Should You Bring?

Getting started is simple.

We recommend bringing:

  • Comfortable clothing you can move in
  • Long pants
  • Gloves
  • Tall socks

Rental skates are available, so you don’t need to own skates to participate.

Where Can Skating Take You?

Learning to skate opens the door to countless opportunities.

Some skaters discover a love for figure skating and artistic performance.

Others find themselves drawn to hockey.

Many simply enjoy skating with friends during public sessions or making it part of an active lifestyle.

No matter where your journey leads, every path begins with learning the fundamentals.
