Learn to skate usa - Hockey programming

Build a strong foundation

Hockey players must be quick, agile, and efficient to succeed on the ice. Our Learn to Skate for Hockey program consists of five levels, ending with an advanced power skating segment that focuses on mastering skills in both directions. At the Power level, skaters learn to glide more swiftly and effectively, reducing strides to enhance game performance.

USA Hockey recommends age-appropriate drills to help players develop essential skating and hockey skills. Young athletes should build confidence by mastering the basic stance, stride mechanics, knee bending, and edge control before advancing to programs like Learn to Play or the American Development Model (ADM).

Session 1: June 23-27
Session 2:  July 21-25

LMU Lions Ice Hockey

Founded in 1930 by Tom Lieb initially to keep football players fit, LMU Hockey quickly transformed from a conditioning program to a competitive intercollegiate sport. The team experienced remarkable success in the 1930s, winning four consecutive Pacific Coast Intercollegiate League titles, but then faced decades of dormancy. A pivotal moment came on March 30, 2006, when the LMU Lions secured their first intercollegiate win in 65 years with a 2-0 victory over USC, effectively reviving the program. Today, LMU Hockey continues to grow, operating as a dynamic club sport with expanding teams, increasing student participation, and a rich legacy of athletic achievement.
